Libraries

The City of Salisbury is home to five libraries:

Our libraries offer more than just a borrowing service, we provide a range of resources to the community:

Community Centres

Community Centres play a vital role in supporting and developing social and educational life within our City. They do this by delivering lifelong learning opportunities that support social wellbeing, foster intellectual and personal growth, and provide pathways into further education, training and employment. 

Community Centres:

Services provided:

  • Learning programs for all ages
  • Educational activities for children
  • Creche
  • Health and fitness classes
  • Art and craft
  • Social support
  • Venue hire (contact individual centres for more information)

Social Policy

The Social Policy area provides advice to the Council on community needs and suggests appropriate ways in which it might respond. This involves the coordination of a range of community development programs with other organisations and agencies, and implementing approved Council policies.

Core functions include:

  • development of policy and plans
  • sister cities
  • Reconciliation Action Plan and Aboriginal Engagement
  • community safety

Culture and Recreation Development

The Culture, Recreation & Youth Division provides advice to the Council on community needs and suggests appropriate ways in which it might respond. This involves the coordination of a range of community development programs with other organisations and agencies, and implementing approved Council policies in an integrated fashion.

Core functions include:

  • cultural planning and policy development
  • ceremonial event management
  • cultural event management
  • public and community art support
  • sports development
  • recreation planning
  • recreation services
  • Salisbury Memorial Park management

Recreation Services

Core functions include:

  • contract management of four (4) facilities
  • minor capital grants
  • club development
  • recreation planning and development

Community Health and Wellbeing

The Community Health and Wellbeing Division focusses on improving the health and wellbeing of the whole of the Salisbury Community through planning, engaging and delivering a broad range of strategies and initiatives.

Core functions include:

  • Planning and Policy Development
  • public health and wellbeing
  • access and inclusion planning, support and engagement
  • aged friendly cities
  • intercultural communities

 Support diverse communities to live healthy, active and engaged lives:

  • active and healthy ageing programs
  • social support programs for seniors
  • social programs tailored for older people from culturally and linguistic diverse backgrounds
  • social support programs for people with disability
  • support for older people to live independently in the community
  • information and support with housing options
  • volunteering and volunteer management
  • provision of three over 50’s leisure centres (Jack Young Centre, Para Hills Centre and Pine Lakes Centre)

Youth and Twelve25 Salisbury Youth Enterprise Centre

Youth Council, through the Youth Strategic Plan plays a vital role in supporting young people in our City. They do this by supporting Council to deliver lifelong learning opportunities that support social wellbeing, foster intellectual and personal growth, and provide pathways into further education, training and employment.
