Believe Mural

Address
Type

Title of Artwork: Believe

Location: Twelve25, Salisbury

Artist: Melita Scott

Form: Mural

Commissioned by: City of Salisbury - Create a Place Public Art Project

Year of Completion: 2021

Rationale:

Dandelions are a symbol of hope, growth, optimism and wishes. For most of us, blowing on a dandelion seed brings back memories of youth.

The face depicted in Believe is that of Keira, a 16-year-old local student, who also assisted in painting the mural. The bright rainbow of colours used in the mural represents diversity and equality within the community. The mural, Believe, tells a story of encouragement. Believe in yourself, make that wish and aim for it.

And the dandelion does not stop growing because it is told it is a weed. The dandelion does not care what others see. It says 'One day they will be making wishes upon me.'
