Church and John Streets Revitalisation Project

The renewal will see the continued revitalisation of the City Centre, complementing the Salisbury Community Hub. It will continue to create a sense of place which reflects Salisbury’s heart and identity.

The renewal will improve lighting and landscaping to create a renewed pedestrian environment and an improved experience for visitors, shoppers, diners, and workers.

The upgrade includes:

• New LED lighting
• Landscaping including new trees, planter boxes, rubbish bins and street furniture
• Renewal, cleaning and repair of paving for the extent of the project
• Removal of bollards and pedestrian obstacles
• Vegetation removal

In 2020, feedback from traders and the community was invited on a preliminary concept plan for the renewal of Church and John Streets.

This feedback, along with technical, environmental and financial information is now being used to finalise the design.

Outside Ideas, one of Adelaide's leading commercial civil construction and landscaping companies has been appointed by the City of Salisbury to deliver the project.

Construction is expected to start in mid-May 2022 and be completed by the end of October 2022, weather permitting.

Construction will be staged and managed to minimise any impacts to businesses on Church and John Street. City of Salisbury will engage with local businesses throughout the works to keep them informed of the construction progress, provide advance notice of any works nearby and assist with any specific impacts.

Yes. The construction will be managed to allow Church and John Streets to continue to be a place where people shop, dine, visit and spend time. This means that no businesses will need to close during the construction.

Pedestrian access will always be available along the streets and into all businesses and buildings during the day.

Given the busy nature of the streets, construction works are likely to cause some disruption to businesses and people using the streets. It is a priority of the project to manage the staging of the construction phases efficiently and in a timely manner while managing disruption.

Church and John Streets will remain open for business during construction, with activities to account for business needs to minimise disturbance.

We will work with Church and John Street traders, businesses, building owners and other stakeholders before construction starts to understand individual requirements during the works. This will continue throughout construction to manage any impacts.

During construction, we will let visitors know that Church and John Streets are ‘open for business'.
