City of Salisbury calls for nominations to celebrate unsung sporting heroes

The City of Salisbury is urging locals to nominate the sporting stars, volunteers and clubs who make a difference in the community as part of its inaugural Sport Awards.

With over 150 sporting clubs within the City of Salisbury, the Sport Awards will honour not only sporting excellence but also the dedication, teamwork and community spirit from members who have committed a lifelong contribution to sport within the City of Salisbury.

Local community sport volunteers and staff dedicate countless hours to roles such as coaching, administrating and officiating, ensuring local sports run smoothly. Without their efforts, many clubs, competitions and achievements would not be possible.

The Sport Awards recognise the people who give their time, energy and passion to make sport thrive in our community. They might not seek the spotlight, but they deserve it.

Award categories include Junior and Senior Sportsperson of the Year, Coach of The Year, Volunteer of The Year, and Club of The Year.

Former AFL great Gavin Wanganeen – a Brownlow Medallist, premiership player and AFL Hall of Fame inductee will help judge the awards.

For the full award list and to submit a nomination, visit: salisbury.sa.gov.au/sportsawards. Nominations close 10pm Sunday 31 August 2025.

To be eligible, all nominees must be affiliated to a club or organisation based in the City of Salisbury. Nominations will be considered for contributions and achievements between 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025 to ensure Winter and Summer sports are included.

So many people in our community dedicate themselves to sport – not for accolades, but because they love it. The Sport Awards are a way to say thank you to those unsung heroes who keep our local clubs running and inspire others along the way.

If you know someone who turns up early, stays late and gives their all to their sport or club – nominate them. It’s a powerful way to let them know their efforts are seen and valued by the entire community.
