Bridgestone Athletics Centre
Update: 19 July 2021
The construction of permanent fencing around the Bridgestone Athletics Centre track is currently underway at Bridgestone Reserve.
As a result, the south-western walking path that runs along the wetlands at the site has been closed.
In response, Council has invested in the opening of the south-eastern route, which encompasses the green open space at Bridgestone Reserve.
Remediation works are currently underway, and the eastern loop is expected to open by August/September.
Council apologises for any inconvenience and we will provide any relevant updates as they occur.
Bridgestone Reserve is a significant new parkland, athletics centre, recreation and fitness playspace for all ages, based in Salisbury.
The Reserve was officially opened 31 March 2017, by Mayor Gillian Aldridge and Bridgestone Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Andrew Moffatt who jointly unveiled a plaque commemorating the day.
The 6.8-hectare site was donated to the Salisbury community by Bridgestone following the cessation of their local manufacturing operations in 2010. The new Reserve features:
The City of Salisbury project included extensive stormwater management works and was supported by the Australian Government’s National Urban Water and Desalination Plan and the South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
The Bridgestone Reserve Water Tank Mural by artist Ella Simpson is also located near the athletics track.
The City of Salisbury was proud to celebrate the opening of the Bridgestone Athletics Centre on 26 March 2021. This marked the completion of the construction of the building and the track.
Since the opening we have been busy working on the operational requirements for the facility and when this has been further progressed the Centre will be made available for general public use.
Some of the operational requirements we are considering include the installation of a perimeter fence and the use of smart access technology to enhance the communities access to the centre.
In the interim, we encourage people to engage with athletics clubs within the City about the availability of their current facilities.
The Bridgestone Athletics Centre is an important investment in sports development, fostering our communities love of sport and underpinning the growth of our clubs.
