Growing for Gold is a free program for young people aged 3 to 16, giving them the opportunity to try a variety of sports and recreation activities in a safe, inclusive, and fun environment. Held across the Cities of Playford, Port Adelaide Enfield, Salisbury, and Tea Tree Gully, the program connects participants with local clubs.

Started by the City of Salisbury in 1999, Growing for Gold has expanded through partnerships with neighbouring councils to offer more activities, more clubs, and a broader reach across northern Adelaide. The program’s goal is to increase youth participation in sport and recreation while supporting local clubs to showcase what they offer.

When: Term 3 School Holidays – 27 September to 12 October 2025, registrations open 18 August.

Ages: 3 to 16 years old

Where: Cities of Playford, Port Adelaide Enfield, Salisbury, and Tea Tree Gully

Around 600 young people participate each year, with 20% going on to join a sporting club. All sessions are run and fully supervised by representatives from participating clubs.

The program is inclusive, welcoming all abilities and cultural backgrounds.

Participants who sign up as a new member at a participating club after the program will receive:

  • Gold Achievement Certificate
  • $50 Intersport voucher
  • Family pass to SHANX Mini Golf
  • Family pass to Waterworld Aquatic Centre
