Dog Handovers

If you are no longer able to care for your dog and would like to hand it over to Council, please contact the Inspectorate section on (08) 8406 8222 during business hours to arrange a time to hand your dog over.

Days of dog handovers are Tuesdays and Thursdays and costs $250 per dog (including GST) or $125 per dog (including GST) for concession cardholders. Concession cards accepted, provided they are current, are:

  • Health Care Card
  • Pensioner Card
  • Seniors Card
  • Sickness Benefit Card

Please pay over the phone on 8406 8222, in person at the Salisbury Community Hub, 34 Church Street, Salisbury or via eftpos facilities at the Dog Pound.

Dog handovers are received at Council’s Dog Pound 56 -61 Research Road, Pooraka by appointment. Under special circumstances Officers may pick a dog up from the owner’s property.

The dog owner must sign the Dog Handover Form and present them to the Council Officer with identification (driver’s licence) upon handing over of the dog.

Once the dog is impounded, at the City of Salisbury pound it is transferred to the Animal Welfare League for relocation providing the dog is suitable.
