Personal Statement:
I have been a resident of Salisbury since 1973 and was elected as Councillor for South Ward in 2008. Hearing the concerns of residents and community groups is important to me and I will continue to advocate strongly on behalf of the residents and businesses in Salisbury. I have successfully fought to retain and upgrade sports and recreation infrastructure in South Ward and I will continue to lobby for improvements to local parks, playgrounds, roads, transport services and streetscapes – including the planting of appropriate trees. I particularly want to see upgrades of Elder Smith Road and Kings Road to improve east/west travel and we desperately need better transport linkages and provision of adequate parking at major railway stations. I will encourage further investment throughout Salisbury which will increase local employment opportunities. I will be lobbying hard to achieve a much needed Community Hub in South Ward which is the only Ward that does not have a community centre. I will also encourage investigations into options to provide affordable housing in our city and, as a Board Member of NAWMA, will encourage the adoption of innovative ways to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
