Welcome to the Introduction to Event Management Program!

Join us for an exciting in-person training program where you will learn all about the world of event management. We'll dive into the ins and outs of planning, organising, and executing successful events with fun interactive activities. Through this, you will gain valuable insights into the key elements that make an event memorable.

This program is brought to you by the City of Salisbury and University of South Australia. Our experienced speakers will share their expertise, providing practical tips and tricks to help you kickstart your career in event management. You'll also have the opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and industry professionals.

PROGRAM DETAILS

DAY 1 - Intro to Event Management workshop

Date: Thursday 29 February 2024

Time: 09:45 am to 3pm

Location: Salisbury Community Hub - Ground floor John Harvey Gallery (34 Church Street, Salisbury SA)

Ages: 16 to 30 years

Cost: $30 (covers all 3 days)

Lunch provided

Delivered by Associate Professor of Tourism Dr Craig Lee from the University of South Australia.

DAY 2 - Salisbury Community Hub Youth Market Practical Event

Date: Thursday 14 March 2024

Shift Times:

  • Set up -11am to 4pm
  • Pack down - 3pm to 8pm

Location: Salisbury Community Hub - Ground floor Civic Plaza

As part of the program, you will gain real life experience with the Salisbury Community Hub Youth Market on Thursday 14 March 2024, or the option to be involved in the other market events. If you enjoyed the program you can then register as a City of Salisbury volunteer to continue supporting our events and further your experience to the industry.

Those who participate at the Youth Market in March will eligible to obtain a free accredited Provide First Aid & CPR Certificate.

DAY 3 - Accredited Provide First Aid Course

Date: Thursday 18 April 2024 (School Holiday)

Time: 9:15am to 5pm

Location: Twelve25 Youth Centre (17 Wiltshire Street, Salisbury)

Condition: Must complete day 1 & 2

Unique Student Identifier: You will need to bring along your USI number or create a free one via https://www.usi.gov.au/

Bring your own lunch or money to purchase lunch.

After the program

After the program, you can register as a City of Salisbury volunteer to continue building your skills, knowledge and resume in the event space. We will organise a time to go through that process.

What are the benefits of registering as a volunteer?

  • You will obtain a Working with Children's Department of Human Services background screening.
  • You will be invited to other relevant volunteering training to continue building your skills and knowledge.
  • After volunteering for 3 months with the City of Salisbury, you can apply for internal job positions.
  • Build your networks within the event and local government industry.
  • Gain a reference for your resume.
