COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

This centre is open for fresh and frozen take-away meals and some activity groups. 

Modified centre-based meals are available again from Monday 13 July. Please ring from 8.30am daily to order a meal as numbers are limited to 35 people per day.

The Jack Young Centre (JYC) is a friendly, welcoming and accessible leisure centre for people aged over 50. The purpose built facilities are fully accessible, offering a unique blend of programs, activities and services.

The Centre is currently open for essential or modified services Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm and centre meals are available 11am to 1pm.

Getting there

The Jack Young Centre is two minute walk from the Salisbury Interchange. A number of bus and train routes service this Interchange. A car park is available for Members' use. For details about public transport services and current timetables please visit the Adelaide Metro website.

Weekly Program

As of Monday 5 July 2020, some social support groups have recommence at the Jack Young Centre and the Para Hills Seniors Centre. Activities at the Pine Lakes Seniors Centre remain suspended until further notice.

Once the COVID-19 situation has passed, the Centres can return to their usual groups and programs which can be found in the weekly program below. Don't hesitate to give us a call if you would like to know more about any particular group or program.

Jack's Café at the Jack Young Centre has a positive reputation for providing freshly prepared nutritious, affordable and tasty meals including traditional home cooked style meals, soups and deserts.

In response to COVID-19 situation, we are providing our meal services in a different way to usual.

  • Take-away and frozen-meals are still available for current Salisbury Senior Members or any senior residents or people with disability.  Refer to menu offerings below.
  • Our dine-in service is available from 11 am to 1 pm daily Monday to Friday. Pre-bookings are essential from 8.30am daily as there are limited seats available. View the dine-in menu here.

To ensure we are able to provide a meal service to as many eligible people as possible, we will continue to monitor how we provide this service.

Fresh meals for take-away (Monday to Friday)

  • Fresh meals can be pre-ordered from a modified menu offering. 

Main Meals

Most meals will be served with salad or vegetables.
Sauce available includes: Plain Gravy, Mushroom Gravy or Garlic Sauce

Frozen Meals (Monday to Friday)

  • Drop-in and select frozen meals between 10am and 2pm weekdays
    *     Salisbury Senior Members or vulnerable members of the public aged 65+ or a representative can drop-in to pick up and choose from a wide variety of frozen meals.
    *     Please bring a Membership card or Seniors Card to assist us with identification. 
  • Pre-order up to a weeks’ worth of frozen meals by calling JYC. These can be collected later in the week during pick up times or you can call the centre to organise an alternate pick up time.

Cost and payments

  • The take-away and frozen meal service is available for current Salisbury Senior Members or vulnerable members of the public aged 65+.
  • Cost of all meals will be $7 for subsidised customers and $8.50 for non-subsidised (we have waived the take-away container fee during this period). Soups and desserts are $3 each.
  • If possible, please bring the correct change or use our credit card tap and go service.

Important notice

The Jack Young Centre is only open for essential or modified services. Remember, if you feel unwell or unsure please contact your doctor or seek medical advice before entering this Seniors Centre. In the interest of public health, please do not visit if you have travelled overseas in the past month, and you have a fever with a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath, or you have been in close contact with a proven case of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Membership

Seniors Centre Membership is open to people over the age of 50 including people with disability. Membership gives you access to three of our over 50's leisure centres.

  • Jack Young Centre - 1 Orange Ave, Salisbury
  • Para Hills Seniors Centre - Para Hills Community Hub, Wilkinson Rd, Para Hills
  • Pine Lakes Centre - 16 Homestead Place, Parafield Gardens.

Anyone aged 50-64 (including those with a disability support pension) wishing to become a member can do so after they start attending one of our groups regularly.

Any members aged 65+ and registered with My Aged Care can access subsidised meals and activities.

The Membership period aligns with the financial year July - June each year and a yearly membership fee ($10) applies to those who attend programs at the centre.

Participants also pay a weekly participant fee of $3-$7 depending on the program.

The centre is set-up for independent people. People requiring support / assistance to attend a group or use the facilities of the centre will need to be supported by a carer or support person. Agency workers referring a client to the centre need to liaise with the Coordinator Wellbeing Programs on 8406 8251 as early as possible as there is a set referral process.

People who are not members can access fresh take-away meals and/or frozen meals at Jack's Café.

Other services for seniors

Staff can also give you information about help at home through Home Assist and the Housing Support Program.

Home Assist services have been extended to assist all senior residents with essential services during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
