The Jack Young Centre (JYC) is a friendly, welcoming and accessible leisure centre for people aged over 50. The purpose built facilities are fully accessible, offering a unique blend of programs, activities and services.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update

As of Wednesday 21 July 2021, all three senior centres are temporarily closed, however essential services will continue to be provided to support our seniors community. These include:

  • JYC remains open only for the provision of takeaway meals including fresh and frozen soups, main meals and desserts. Please contact 8406 8525 to arrange your order prior to 11.30am, and collect between 10am to 2pm.
  • Home Assist will continue to provide the following essential services. Contact 8406 8225 for more information.
    • Essential domestic assistance and transport to essential medical appointments
    • Urgent home modifications and maintenance to ensure the health and safety of clients
  • Virtual social support activities (phone calls and online programs)
  • Assistance with crisis housing supports for older people who qualify for the Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance (ACHA) program

Getting there

The Jack Young Centre is two minute walk from the Salisbury Interchange. A number of bus and train routes service this Interchange. A car park is available for Members' use. For details about public transport services and current timetables please visit the Adelaide Metro website.

Weekly Program

Many of the social support groups have recommenced at the Jack Young Centre and the Para Hills Seniors Centre.

Jack's Café at the Jack Young Centre has a positive reputation for providing freshly prepared nutritious, affordable and tasty meals including traditional home cooked style meals, soups and deserts.

We are currently providing the following, which is in response to COVID-19 situation.

  • Take-away and frozen-meals are available for current Salisbury Senior members or any senior residents or people with disability Monday to Friday. Refer to menu specials below or view the menu here.
  • Dine-in option remains closed during the lockdown.

Fresh meals for take-away (Monday to Friday)

  • Fresh meals can be pre-ordered. A sample from the regular menu is listed below - or view the full menu here.  Note: a new spring/summer menu is coming out in September.
  1. Chicken or beef schnitzel
  2. Grilled chicken
  3. Crumbed or grilled fish
  4. Tuna patties
  5. Ham salad plate (no bread roll)

Most meals will be served with salad or vegetables. Sauce available includes: Plain Gravy, Mushroom Gravy or Garlic Sauce

A popular dessert is the fruit salad.

For same-day pick up, please call the Jack Young Centre before 11.30am and collect prior to 2pm

Frozen Meals (Monday to Friday)

  • Drop-in and select frozen meals between 10am and 2pm weekdays
    * Salisbury Senior Members or vulnerable members of the public aged 65+ or a representative can drop-in to pick up and choose from a wide variety of frozen meals.
    * Please bring a Membership card or Seniors Card to assist us with identification.
  • Pre-order up to a weeks’ worth of frozen meals by calling JYC. These can be collected later in the week during pick up times or you can call the centre to organise an alternate pick up time.
  • When collecting meals, please observe social distancing and good hygiene guidelines.

Cost and payments

  • Cost of all meals will be $7.30 for subsidised customers and $8.50 for non-subsidised. Soups and desserts are $3 each.
  • If possible, please bring the correct change or use our credit card tap and go service.

Important notice

The Jack Young Centre is open for essential services. Remember, if you feel unwell or unsure please contact your doctor or seek medical advice before entering this Seniors Centre. In the interest of public health, please do not visit if you have travelled to any hot-spots recently, and you have a fever with a cough, sore throat or shortness of breath, or you have been in close contact with a proven case of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Seniors Centre Membership is open to people over the age of 50 including people with disability. Membership gives you access to three of our over 50's leisure centres.

  • Jack Young Centre - 1 Orange Ave, Salisbury
  • Para Hills Seniors Centre - Para Hills Community Hub, Wilkinson Rd, Para Hills
  • Pine Lakes Centre - 16 Homestead Place, Parafield Gardens.

Anyone aged 50-64 (including those with a disability support pension) wishing to become a member can do so after they start attending one of our groups regularly.

Any members aged 65+ and registered with My Aged Care can access subsidised meals and activities.

The Membership period aligns with the financial year July - June each year and a yearly membership fee ($10) applies to those who attend programs at the centre.

Participants also pay a weekly participant fee of $3-$7 depending on the program.

The centre is set-up for independent people. People requiring support / assistance to attend a group or use the facilities of the centre will need to be supported by a carer or support person. Agency workers referring a client to the centre need to liaise with the Coordinator Wellbeing Programs on 8406 8251 as early as possible as there is a set referral process.

People who are not members can access fresh take-away meals and/or frozen meals at Jack's Café.

Other services for seniors

Staff can also give you information about help at home through Home Assist and the Housing Support Program.

Home Assist services have been extended to assist all senior residents with essential services during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
