Walkleys Road Corridor

Walkleys Road Corridor Have Your Say WebHero.png

Council has been investigating areas of Council owned land that are suitable for future development. The site on the other side of Montague Road from the Ingle Farm Shopping Centre between Mozart Avenue and Denning and Grenada Avenues, the Walkleys Road Corridor, (which was reserved for the development of a future road) has been identified as a site for future housing and potentially for other non-residential uses in the area adjacent to Montague Road.

We are in the very early stages of investigation and are keen to get community and stakeholder views on what the issues and opportunities are for future development on this site.

We acknowledge that the site provides an attractive outlook for many local residents, but that in many instances the space isn’t highly usable, reflecting that it has historically been preserved as a future road corridor. We are keen to provide high quality open space within any new development that meets the needs of the local community.

We will use your input to develop a concept plan that will deliver a range of benefits, including more housing choices and better connection to local services for those who need it. Best practice design with high attention to detail in the new homes and public spaces will also be a focus of the development, as well as improved open spaces and parks and public safety from increased passive surveillance.

Developing this site is not a foregone conclusion – we haven’t made the final decision whether to do so or not. More detailed investigations and engaging with the community will help Council to decide whether or not to progress the development.

Council has experience in projects like this – where we develop underutilised reserve space – you may have seen our developments at Greentree Walk, Boardwalk at Greentree in Paralowie, Riverwalk, Emerald Green in Parafield Gardens, The Reserve in Salisbury North, or Irving Place in Para Hills. These are now attractive, thriving communities that have given new residents and existing local residents looking for a change in their lifestyle, the opportunity to experience what the City of Salisbury has to offer.

We are committed to keeping you accurately and regularly informed and providing you with an opportunity to have your say.

How can I have my say?

We undertook a three week consultation period on this project which closed at 5pm, 23 November 2020.

We are now collating the feedback which we will report to Council.   Where we have received feedback on the proposal suggesting ideas, our design team will consider and incorporate the ideas we have heard when they draft a concept plan.

Council will also be provided with the feedback we received which was not supportive of the project, or proposed other uses for the Walkleys Road Corridor that did not include residential development.

We will be engaging with the community and stakeholders again in early 2021 to allow you to provide feedback on the concept plan. In this second stage we want to hear from you:

  • What do you think of the proposed concept plan?
  • Has it addressed your concerns, issues or ideas – how could it do this better?
  • What are the benefits of this proposed Concept Plan to you/your community?

What will you do with my feedback?

Your feedback will be reported to Council so they are aware of the thoughts and opportunities raised by the community and other stakeholders. This will help them to make a decision at a Council meeting on whether to proceed with the project or what changes they might require.

We will get back to you with a summary on what feedback we received during the consultation and what decision Council made. As part of this we will outline the next steps and how you can participate in any future community engagement. We are committed to keeping you accurately and regularly informed.
