Green waste

NAWMA currently operates a free fortnightly green waste service on behalf of The City of Salisbury. There are currently over 54,253 residents taking part in the green waste collection which results in a collection of about 1,180 tonnes of green waste per month. To take part in this free fortnightly service, residents must purchase and register a 240 litre bin.

How can I get a bin?

To take part in this free collection you will need to purchase and register a bin.

You can purchase a new bin and have it delivered by NAWMA for $50.00 (including GST) or you can order a new bin from Paramount Browns., on 8260 6333. The cost per bin is $69.00 if you collect it yourself, plus $12.00 if you would like it to be couriered to you. (The Resident must state that they were recommended Paramount by the Salisbury Council in order to receive the cheaper delivery rate of $12.00) – Otherwise delivery cost will be $15.00.

Alternatively, second-hand bins can be purchased from Mastec Australia, who has a selection of new ($82.50 each delivered), factory seconds and second hand bins ($65.00 each – customer to collect). For more information, contact Mastec on 8447 2500.

How do I register my bin?

You must register your greenwaste bin with NAWMA so that the contractor knows it is there to be emptied. NAWMA will also send you a yellow sticker to be placed on the bin to identify it as a greenwaste bin. Without the yellow sticker, the bin will not be emptied. To register your bin, please contact the Customer Centre on 08 8406 8222 during business hours.

How many green waste bins can I have?

There is no limit to the number of greenwaste bins you can have. However you must provide the bins, each must be registered with NAWMA, and each bin must also have a greenwaste sticker.

When will my collection take place?

Collection days are highlighted in green on the NAWMA Calendar. The greenwaste service operates on alternate weeks to the recycling service. Contact the Customer Centre on 8406 8222 to find out when your collection day is or for a current calendar to be posted to you.

What can go in a green waste bin?

Greenwaste bins can accept garden waste only. This includes pruning, weeds, grass clippings, leaves and flowers. Items should not be in plastic bags, and bin liners should not be used, as plastic contaminates green waste. Globe Derby residents may place horse manure in the bin.

I do not have a bin, how else can I dispose of green waste?

The Waste Transfer Station at Research Road, Pooraka will also take green waste. Salisbury Council residents who can produce identification by way of a driver's licence, household bill or rates notice will be charged a discounted fee. The Waste Transfer Station also has loan trailers available for green waste disposal. For more information, please click on the Pooraka Waste Transfer Station link to the left.
