Harmony Week 2020 - Cancelled

Harmony Week 2020 COS Website Hero.png

Sunday 15 March 2020 - Saturday 21 March 2020

Venue: Various

Cost: Various

Important update

In light of the current public health concerns posed by coronavirus (COVID-19), City of Salisbury has made the difficult decision to cancel or postpone the Harmony Week celebrations scheduled for this week.

We were looking forward to coming together as a diverse community in honour of Harmony Week and this outcome is disappointing, however necessary given the evolving nature of this threat to public health.

Our primary responsibility and concern remains the safety and welfare of all members of our community.

While the current advice is that non-essential gatherings should be limited to less than 500 people, it is our responsibility to uphold protocol regarding social distancing to reduce the spread of germs and help protect the most vulnerable members of our community from coronavirus and cancel all Harmony week events other than current exhibition “From Many Lands we come”.

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our events and displays for Harmony Week 2020 facilitate a celebration of how all our differences make Australia a great place to live.

Ali’s Wedding (M)

Ali dreams big - he wants to be with the girl he loves, but he's been promised to another girl at his father's mosque. He wants to be the great doctor that the community expects him to be, but he doesn't get the marks. And above all he wants to make his father proud. Really proud.

ALI'S WEDDING is an affectionate and entertaining story about family, duty and love in multi-cultural Australia. Depicting the lives of a Muslim family in Melbourne with authenticity and warmth, Ali's family share the same dilemmas as every family. Parents who want the best for their children and children who are trying to work out their place in the world.

Winner of Best Original Screenplay and nominated for 7 awards from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts, including Best Direction and Best Film. Winner of the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Sydney Film Festival.

"ALI'S WEDDING... gets its big laughs from authentic insights into the complexity and contradictions inherent in Islamic communities, with a wisdom about human nature that hits a universal sweet spot." - Nick Dent, Time Out Sydney
