Abandoned Vehicles

What is an abandoned vehicle?

An abandoned vehicle is a vehicle which has been discarded and has been left in the street for longer than 24 hours.

Vehicles which are owned by residents nearby to where they are located, whether actively used or not, are not abandoned vehicles.

Vehicles owned by residents nearby to where they are located can legally be parked in the street for any length of time provided they are parked legally.

Abandoned vehicle concerns

If a vehicle has been parked in your street for a few days and you don't know who the owner is, Council can investigate your concern.

To begin the investigative process, Council officers require you to provide the following information:

  • Registration number of the vehicle
  • Model make and colour
  • Approximate length of time vehicle has been parked
  • Location of the vehicle (vicinity to a landmark (house number, building, park/reserve))

If the vehicle is parked illegally, a City of Salisbury inspector will attend the location and may issue a parking expiation.

Unregistered vehicles may be reported to Police on 131 444.

If you wish to report a vehicle that may have been abandoned, or if you believe your vehicle has been removed, please contact the City of Salisbury on 8406 8222.
