New Year Tips

Here are some basic tips to help us all over the ‘festive season’.

Instead of setting yourself some New Year’s resolutions, why not set some healthy habit goals instead.

Get & Keep moving!

Suggestions include visiting the gym (usually half-empty at this time of year), take up swimming or go for a brisk walk after dinner in the cool of the evening. Perhaps go for a walk and try out the new fitness equipment at Amsterdam Crescent and Mawson Lakes listed later in this newsletter. Walk the dog. Play cricket in the back yard and make sure you get enough sleep. "Staying active over Christmas not only reduces your chances of gaining weight, it also helps energise you and reduces stress.”

Try wearing a pedometer which encourages people to walk about an extra 1500 steps a day, lose weight, and lower their blood pressure. Gradually build up to at least 30 minutes of brisk walking and a total of 10,000 steps per day.
Cook fresh.

With a little bit of planning you can whip up some healthy & delicious recipes with the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables that are available at this time of year.

LISTEN to your body... it knows what you need. RESPECT your body... it is the only one you've got!

Your body will keep talking to you until you listen. If you don't hear the gentle message your body is forced to get nasty with you! Your body gives you messages about things like stress, fitness, what you are eating, and emotional health.

Identify now the programs & activities that you would like to try in 2020. There is plenty on offer!

Heart Foundation walking groups and trails, Cycle Salisbury Social rides, gardening, Health & Wellbeing programs at our community centres or recreation centres.
