Registrations of interest now open for Intercultural Strength for Life group

We are looking to have an Intercultural Strength for Life program (for the Over 50’s) at the Jack Young Centre (JYC) weekly on a Friday mornings (likely to commence in April/May 2019).

Would you like to:

  • feel better and ease effects from Arthritis, Diabetes, Osteoporosis and heart disease
  • improve your balance and mental wellbeing

  • raise self-esteem and self-confidence
  • reduce lower back pain
  • maintain an independent lifestyle
  • have a strength program specifically designed for your own needs and abilities?

Registrations of interest are now open. We have an offer of a free assessment (usually costing either $30 or $55).

About Strength for Life

COTA (Council of the Ageing) SA’s ‘Strength for Life’ project enables people 50 years and over to access affordable and quality strength training programs at local venues across the state.

What does ‘Strength for Life’ offer you?

Strength training can alleviate the effects of chronic conditions such as arthritis, type two diabetes, osteoporosis, and heart disease. Strength training has also been shown to improve balance and reduce risk of falling, enhance mental wellbeing, improve body composition (more muscle, less fat), raise self-esteem and self-confidence, reduce lower back pain, enhance older people’s ability to undertake activities of daily living, and maintain an independent lifestyle. Feedback from people that have been doing the program in gyms across Salisbury has been very positive. They also like the supportive environment.

You will have a pre-screening procedure and will have your own program designed for you to ensure that you are doing a strength program that suits your own needs and abilities.

This individual assessment and creation of an exercise program, specific for you, normally costs a once off up-front fee of either $30 or $55. At JYC we can currently offer a cost to you of $0 (FREE assessment).

 Other gyms charge a maximum of $7 per session for Strength for Life. At JYC, the cost to you will be $6 per session; $5 if you have a My Aged Care referral to JYC.

Please note that participants will also be required to be JYC members ($10 for the financial year).
