Backgammon - Registrations of Interest

Interested in playing backgammon?

The Jack Young Centre is taking registrations of interest from people Over 50 who would like to potentially be a part of a Backgammon group on a Thursday afternoon at the centre.

About the game

Backgammon is one of the oldest known board games. Its history can be traced back nearly 5,000 years to archaeological discoveries in Mesopotamia.

It is a two player game where each player has fifteen pieces which move between twenty-four triangles according to the roll of two dice. The objective of the game is to be first to move all fifteen checkers off the board.

It's a game to use and enhance your brain as the essence of any game is to use your intellect and to foresee your opponent's moves. In many aspects the game success depends from the random rolls of the die - but even with unlucky hands, there is a chance to win, just don’t make mistakes and use your opponent's weaknesses.
