Youth Employment Family Conversations

ARE YOU A PARENT WORRIED ABOUT THE UNEMPLOYMENT OF YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER?

Having arguments about your son or daughters effort to find a job? Is your son or daughter becoming demoralised from continuing unemployment?

City of Salisbury and its Youth Centre have been able to secure a specialist employment mentor and youth worker to develop a new way of approaching youth unemployment. This program builds on a families structure and support to help move a young person from unemployment through to employment.

Parents and Guardian's of a young person aged 17 -25 years can book a 1 hour family conversation with our specialist mentor. It requires ideally all parent/s or guardian/s and the young person to come and have a no obligation conversation about where you are at, what to try next and how to make the system work for you.

The conversation is without obligation, but will provide strategies and referral pathways to move forward. It will help parents and young people understand the current employment market and it will also help young people negotiate reasonable expectations from parents and guardians.

This program is independent of job service agencies, centrelink, any schools or registered training providers and receives no state or federal government funding. It is solely designed for the benefit of your family and your young person.

Initially the cost of the sessions are $15.00 to cover the miscellaneous costs of delivering the service - a very small investment when looking at the potential benefit. The specialist mentor is volunteering her time.

The mentor has worked previously for Centrelink, Job Service agencies, and local youth services.

Find and more and book here or email Rhenke@salisbury.sa.gov.au.
