A vibrant hub, the Centre offers both traditional activities and new programs to suit changing needs.

With easy access to public transport, entry from Kesters Road, and proximity to shops and other community facilities it's no surprise locals are passionate about the Centre.

The air-conditioned hall offers seating for 80, with access to an enclosed courtyard garden. General kitchen facilities are available. The Centre also has smaller meeting spaces available for community hire.

History – The Paddocks Centre

A community led campaign in the 1980’s saw The Paddocks Centre built amongst a tree studded reserve on the corner of Bridge and Kesters Roads, Para Hills West.

The original building was constructed as a community Neighbourhood House in 1979 and was further developed as a joint community development project in 1981. Over the years, around 30,000 people have participated in a variety of community-based programs and events involving computing, health and fitness, arts and crafts and language, literacy and numeracy.

The City of Salisbury’s commitment to The Paddocks Centre saw maintenance and renovations take place over the years, however, it recognised that effective servicing of increasing community needs would eventually have to be addressed.

The Paddocks Centre became part of a review to evaluate how well the community centre could continue to play its vital role in supporting social wellbeing, fostering intellectual and personal growth and providing pathways to training and employment. Community consultation first began in 2008 and involved engaging with the local community on a variety of topics including what they would like to see in a new design and where they would like it to be located. Through that consultation it was identified that the community wanted flexible, multipurpose spaces which can cater for everyone and the ideal site was identified as the Para Hills Library and Positive Ageing Centre adjacent to the Para Hills shopping district on Wilkinson Road.

In September 2015, Council approved the development of a concept design in consultation with the local community. In August 2016, Council endorsed the concept design for a 500-square metre facility which will create a new hub providing residents with access to library services, seniors services and a new and modern location for The Paddocks Centre.

The community hub will be a landmark facility with modern and well‐equipped facilities for those who live in the City as well as those who visit. Spaces will be available for events, exhibitions, workshops and a multifunction space for up to 120 people, as well as spaces for events, exhibitions and workshops.
