Salisbury Library Service is holding a short story competition to celebrate Book Week and Salisbury Writers' Festival 2019.

Winning entries will be displayed and shared on the City of Salisbury website, social media pages and in the Salisbury Library e-newsletter.

There are two different age groups and conditions:

  • Class submissions for schools (2 pages)
    Junior Primary – Reception to Year 1 (picture story format)
  • Individual submissions for any student studying or residing in the City of Salisbury area (1000 words)
    Lower Primary Years 2 to 4 (short story)
    Middle to Upper Primary Years 5 to 7 (short story)
    Lower Secondary Years 8 to 10 (short story)

Conditions of Entry
     • Entries are open to those who live or study within the City of Salisbury
     • Limit of 1000 words short story or 2 pages picture story
     • Limit of one entry per person/class

Please use either Microsoft Word or PDF format and include:
     • Name
     • Age
     • School
     • Year level
     • Contact details: phone and email; parent or teacher (if class submission)

Entries will be assessed on the following criteria:
     • creativity
     • originality
     • spelling/grammar
     • editing skills

Entries open: Monday 29 April 2019
Entries close: Friday 26 July 2019
Invitations sent out: Monday 5 August 2019
Winners announced: Friday 23 August 2019 (Salisbury Writers’ Festival Opening Night)

Hard copy entries can be submitted to any of our five library branches (we are happy to return them after the competition if you wish to come and collect them again).
