Road improvements

Released on 07 March 2017

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will be undertaking works to improve safety and traffic flow at the Salisbury Highway intersection with Elder Smith Road at Mawson Lakes.

The improves include:

  • the installation of an additional left-turn lane along the Elder Smith Road approach for west-bound traffic flow to this intersection with the Salisbury Highway
  • an extension of the left-turn lanes along the Elder Smith Road into the Salisbury Highway
  • a new controlled signalised left-turn movement from Elder Smith Road into the Salisbury Highway
  • localised widening of a section of Elder Smith Road for the purpose of extending the dual lanes for east-bound traffic flow from this intersection with the Salisbury Highway.

These safety improvements will reduce the risk of rear-end and left-turn crashes at this location, as well as improve traffic flow at the intersection.

Works are scheduled to commence in mid March 2017 and expected to be completed by the end of May 2017, weather permitting.

The works will be undertaken between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Should night works be required these works will be managed to minimise disturbance to the local community as much as possible and adjacent residents will be notified in advance.

Roads will remain open to traffic with a 25 km/h speed restriction in place while workers are on site. Lane and other speed restrictions may apply subject to onsite conditions.

DPTI will make every effort to minimise impacts and will ensure that access to properties will be maintained throughout the works.

This $1.1 million project is funded by the State Government's Asset Improvement program.
